The Chameleon Cafe Bar
17 Angel Row, NG1 6HL (map)
0115 950 5097
Formerly Raffles Art Cafe, this venue has seen an eclectic number of artists pass through it’s doors in the past. Notably Chris Corsano and Jack Rose. There’s an oddly amusing story to be told from the Jack Rose gig too but let’s leave that for another occasion. Admittedly it’s not a well-known venue due to its unfortunate obscure location. However, don’t let this put you off.
Entrance is from the street next to the Bell Inn, through a deceptively seedy allee way, rising up stairs where you shall be presented with a welcoming bar and seating area partially overlooking Market Square (quite a spectacle at the weekends when all the animals are let loose). Further up more stairs and a small-ish venue with pretty pictures on the walls and low-key decor is to be found.
The name is befitting of the owner who is a somewhat eccentric, in the nicest possible way of course. Be warned he will try to offer you a crate of Stella for £36! (If that’s not inflation then I don’t know what is) Its also the only venue in nottingham where you can get cold real ale (theres a very good reason for that), but it is welcoming and not without charm. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a lovely space for a gig and watch out for promoters utilising the venue in the forthcoming months.
