Rock City - The grand patriarch of the Rock City family (Rock City, The Rig, The Basement, The Red Room, Stealth and The Social), this venue may put you a little in mind of a run-down theatre in a bleak science-fiction film theatre, but let that cast no aspersions on the bands that play within - the great and the good of metal, punk, emo and pop are often to be found playing here, and it’s not unusual for an indie band to grace it’s stage. The second largest Nottingham venue after the Arena caters for most tastes.
With three rooms and five bars, there are gigs galore, but it’s also a popular clubbing venue. There’s the large main room, fit for a major band’s crowd, that can also build a club atmosphere, and its offshoots The Basement and The Rig for a more intimate and gritty experience, so the Rock City complex can house and satisfy the masses.
Unfortunately, the prices at the bars border on prohibitive, the major drawback of this venue. But being flanked by The Horn in Hand, The Speakeasy, and ample other establishments due to its fairly central location means you can always do your drinking before and after the performance.
