There are plenty of other things on offer at the Cookie Club other than The Big Wednesday. Thursday’s “Up The Junction” is 60s night and although it can sometimes be quite empty, the DJ plays plenty of danceable classics from the Kinks, the Rolling Stones et al. Saturday hosts another indie night as well as the pretty decent “Funk U” (you can figure that one out for yourself). However the real highlight is Fridays, not for the upstairs mix of Britpop and 90s dance in “Sabotage” but, perhaps surprisingly, for the 80s room “Atomic”. Ok they might stick in the odd bit of Culture Club or Wham if you’re unlucky, but the rest of the night will be a great mix of punk (Buzzcocks, Clash), post-punk (Joy Division, Cure) and alternative (Pixies, Smiths, Nirvana). As with all Cookie Club nights you’re not going find anything particularly off-kilter but you will enjoy what you do get, which is exactly what it says on the tin. Also remember to head to the Wetherspoons opposite beforehand for cheap drinks (it’s the nicer, and less busy of the two in Nottingham).
