Electric Banana

Where? The Social

When? Wednesday nights, 10.30pm - 3am

If you listen to old Highsoc members they’ll recount the days of yore when Electric Banana was Nottingham’s best kept secret. No queues at the door or the bar, it would start to half-fill at about 12:30 and until then every request you made would get played.

Now, the Electric Banana crowd is a swarming behemoth of a thing. The DJ is the Reverend Carbootleg. Yeah, the bloke in the dog collar. With license to play what he wants, the Rev could either come up with inspired transitions from 60s Soul to latest indie chart hit, or strike out with the odd electro turkey. The free reign is the key to the thing. Expect to hear modern indie darlings mixed with the Sex Pistols, Sonic Youth or Gary Numan. Downstairs, expect to be fed a more homogenous diet of crashing synths.

Though liable to be packed by midnight, EB is usually a good shout for a Wednesday night out, and there’s always a possibility of being delighted by a favourite song cropping up at a most unexpected time.

Plus don’t forget that if you show your wonderful High Soc membership card upon entrance before 12pm, then you get in for just a measly £1, yes, that’s just one pound!
