Nottingham’s chief independent cinema is a classy establishment indeed, and the place to go to see foreign movies, obscure art-house works and re-released classics as well as the essential new mainstream films. All of these shown in lovely rooms with large-ish screens facing plush chairs, and tasteful decor.

Generally eschewing the latest re-made, special-effects heavy, plasticky blockbuster sequel, the broadway has good student prices and a pair of lovely café/bars on the two lower floors. The ground floor bustles while the mezzanine bar on the first floor is somewhat more serene. At each you can find food and both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks of the same quality reflected in the films themselves. Watch out for the exhibitions that are regularly put on around the building.

Both the material on display and the surroundings, then, can be quite lovely; making the Broadway a clear favourite to get a drink and a bite to eat either side of an interesting film.
