You move into a new town, you’re a little unsure which direction is North and you’re hungry. You don’t want to do it, you know that its wrong and that there must be other places to go, but still, you buy a ‘Flakey Bake’ and a stale doughnut from some commercial hole. Well, not anymore thanks to the aspirational plumpers at High Soc. It went like this: after avoiding the tractor beams of Marks and Sparks sandwich bit and the poor efforts to entice by a million fast-food fascists, we stumbled late last year into Brown Betty’s. Proudly serving weary travellers for many a decade, Betty’s menu is longer than your dissertation, spanning the length of its entire back wall and offers everything from mozzarella and pesto on ’special bread’ to a sausage and melted cheese bap. I remarked, ‘this is the best shop in all of Nottinghamshire’ and Betty smiled in modest agreement. Important note: If you can’t find anywhere to sit on their benches, a take-away service is available, and pre-prepared sandwiches are available from their shop over the road.
