There are many more juicy details to be added, but so far we have the following confirmed:

Gay Against You
Gay Against You is consisting of Joe Howe aka Germlin and Lachlann Rattray aka Yoko Oh No ! They are enthusiastic, messy and very, very friendly duo who inhabit the middle ground between Cyndi Lauper and The Locust. In the two years since they formed, they have toured extensively in the UK, performing with acts such as Lightning bolt, Help she can’t swim, DJ Scotch Egg, Shitdisco amongst others. Phew!
“Gay Against You are part of a fine mentalist tradition that spans Atari Teenage Riot, Denim and Diamonds, Les Savy Fav, Devo and, er, Dweeb and are a breath of fresh air in the often po-faced pretentious Glasgow noise/improv scene.” Diskant
“Two subterranean creatures dressed in primary school P.E. kits, complete with charcoal-stained eyes and badly-concealed erections, howl unintelligibly over spaz-core electronics.” Fused Magazine

Owen Tromans & The Elders @ Bunkers Hill Inn

Monday, August 6th, 2007

Damn You! present…

Tuesday 21st August, 8pm at Bunkers Hill Inn, Nottingham [map] £3 entry

OWEN TROMANS & THE ELDERS
Owen’s first band San Lorenzo occupy a special place in the otherwise cold and bitter hearts of team DY! as the first band to release a full length album on Gringo Records. They made the record, Chris did the sleeve, Matt put it out, we all booked shows for them and Neil wore a fur coat with wine pouches in the pockets and thought everyone’s name was Dave. Ahhh, those were the days. San Lorenzo still briefly re-unite but Owen’s chief concern these days is his own solo work which he performs live with the band The Elders. When you’re a nipper you want your music to show every influence you have but as you get wiser it all gets more streamlined - for better or for worse. In Owen’s case it’s for the better as, whereas a few years ago he’d have suppressed his pop heart to proudly display his hardcore credentials, these days the pop tunes stream out of him like sun through clouds. His latest single Korea is one of the finest slabs of shameless indie rock we’ve ever heard and all the better for it and we’re stoked to put him and The Elders on for you. [Owen Tromans MySpace]

YONOKIERO
Many moons ago, some young people making a right racket got on Radio One and in the NME and Melody Maker. Much to everyone’s surprise, nearly 10 years on, Gringo Records is still going strong. Older and wiser. And only fractionally uglier. Head of the pack back then was Colchester’s Hirameka Hi-Fi who embraced the gung-ho attitude of their heroes Sebadoh and made some of the most urgent pop noise of the time. Yonokiero is essentially a reuniting of the two main guys from Hirameka, Chris and Tom. They’re still singing about the same themes, but now the songs are a bit more reflective, a bit more tuneful and packing a bit more punch. [Yonokiero MySpace]

ALEX CLEGG
Sings songs of death and deathlessness as well as elephants and dogs. [Alex Clegg MySpace]

Competition - Logo Design (Deadline: 21st July)

High Society is already thinking about next year, are you? Well, you should be too. Next year, much like last year, we want a new logo for our society, one which we can be proud of so we’re giving you (members, non-members, graduates, freshman, anybody…) the opportunity to design our new logo for us. (The logo above is last years design) There can only be one winner of course but the designs that don’t succeed (and are considered usable) will be used as designs for badges which will be available from the start of next year. The winner will receive free entry to any Nottingham gig of their own choosing (within reason) and free High Society membership for the forthcoming year (a massive saving of £3.50). So, what are you waiting for. There’s no limit to how many you can send in but the deadline is 21st July, so you’ve got a month, get doodling my friends. Send your designs to info@highsoc.com or alternatively send them to, 17 Hungerton Street, Lenton, Nottingham, NG7 1HL…Email is preferable though please. If you have any problems then please do let us know…
