THE FAMILY ELAN
The Family Elan began on horseback some time in the distant past. A young Tatar boy, seeking refuge from the windswept plains, suddenly came across a huge swathe of primeval forest. Hearing the sound of the wind rushing through the trees he began to imitate, and soon discovered that he was a pretty decent whistler, but this wasn’t quite enough. He jumped off his horse at the next convenient stop (what is now Eastern Poland) and fashioned a crude lute out of a fallen tree. Here were spent many years in solitary pleasure, living frugally from the land, and enjoying the bounties which the forest provided. He wrote many songs and improvised to his heart’s content. Growing old however he resolved to find a wife and have children, thus ensuring that the music continued after his passing. His descendents have spread like wild fire, some, like Stryek Hladowski, have remained in that corner of the world, leading the spiritual life, while others either through forced exile or a natural pioneering bent, such as Kazimiera Paliwoda, the fiddler Mikolaj Soltan, adoptive patriarch Anatol Krakowiec, and the pigeoner Wujek Wladzio (to name but a few) have toured extensively in Bialowieza, Belarus, Tatra/Carpathian mountains, Siberia, Palestine, Munchen, Bradford, Glasgow, the Highlands and Islands, always preserving the music, often in non-musical forms. Due to the cycle of life and death the family is currently under the gaurdianship of Chris Hladowski, who aims to archive the bulk of material, whilst struggling to transmit the spirit of his forebears. He receives valuable assistance from Hanna Tuulikki. One album is completed, having been recorded in Glasgow, summer/autumn of 2006, with the help of honourary family member John Cavanagh. It is called “The Stare of Dawn” and will be released October 2007

THOUGHT FORMS

Recently added to the PORTISHEAD ATP festival this December so we’re very excited at the prospect. A three piece from Bath, Thought Forms are amazingly proficient, they will launch into a deceptive detour that quickly ascends into some marvellous pyramid of sound leaving you demanding more and more. A giddy concoction of Sonic Youth (circa ‘Evol’), Rothko, Hovercraft, Slowdive…Not to be missed.
“feedback-soaked diz-busting that recalls Major Stars shows of yore”
- Byron Coley, Wire magazine

STRAP THE BUTTON
“Seamless shifts from conceptual, Cage-ian composition to resplendent guitar led symphonies, a band steadfast in their refusal to submit to categorisation” We’ll try to get around to writing our own description but the one KneeKnees wrote is more than apt for this semi-improvised who seem intent on trawling the oceans of prog, kraut and experimental music aimlessly (?) in search of refinement.

EL HEATH
Mr. Heath who is also a member of Strap the Button (amongst others) will be playing an exclusive short solo set of Martenot Loops.

Cowtown + Chops + I Love Sarah - The Bodega Social

COWTOWN (Leeds. Chinchilla Records.)
With a practically sold out 7″ on Golden Lab Records, and a totally sold out split 7″ on Bloodloss, Cowtown are about to release an album on Chinchilla-Tone (CD), Golden Lab (Vinyl), Catmobile (extra distribution) and On The Bone (downloads)

Delectable chunks of angular no/new wave noisy pop played by people who clearly know what they’re on about (their other bands include Tigers!, Brown Owl, Beards, G-Fang, The Dragon Rapide, Monster Killed By Laser etc). When people talk about Cowtown songs, they always go ‘I like the one with the Hard Days Night chord at the start, and the one that goes, ‘Deneh! Deneh! Deneh-duh-duh! Deneh! Deneh-duh-duh!’. A sound that touches upon Devo, The Beatles, Deerhoof and Link Wray, this is the juiciest piece of summer fruit you’ll taste all year, even if they have been frozen for consumption in late November..but it’ll come topped with the cream of newly added bonus vocals, from Ste (Pifco). PARTY BAND OF THE CENTURY!

CHOPS
Frewheeling dysfunctional big beat drums! Cosmic keys! Mind controlling tone generators! Limb shaking guitars! Shifted sax! Jazz lounge with uncomfortable sofas! Broken R’n’B! Calypso played naked in the fridge-freezer! Euphoric knees-up! Psychedelic forays into wonk pop! Fresh faced fortune tellers! Tear jerkers! Motivational speakers! One Love revivalists!

Forthcoming releases include a split 12″ on Upset! The Rhythm with someone as yet unknown, and a split DVD with Talibam! on Chinchilla-Tone. Their faces are also seen in popular beat combos such as Quack Quack, I Had An Inkling (EYE HAI), Sense Or This?, etc

I LOVE SARAH
For those who missed ILS last time in Nottingham then you have another chance to redeem yourself. Making an impossible racked for a two-piece, they’re like The Fucking Champs on a bouncy castle. An impossibly fun gaggle of casio, saxophone, drums, guitar and smiles.
